Using Online Video

The lowering cost of technology has made it possible for small business owners to use newer technologies such as online video. Digital video cameras make it very easy to shoot video clips, and with a little help from your webmaster they can easily be uploaded to your website.

The question becomes, "how do I use video clips to increase sales for my business?"  Here are a few ideas.

  • Product Demonstrations: It is a plain and simple fact that the majority of people like to see what they are buying and how it will meet their particular needs. With an online product demonstration you can demonstrate what your product does and how easy and effective it is to use.
  • Profile your employees: People make a company what it is. Video each of your employees introducing themselves and saying a little about the company and what it is that they do for the customer. This type of video can really help people connect emotionally with your business.
  • Video Testimonials: Put a new spin on customer testimonials. If you have customers that really talk you up . . . get it on video! Testimonials could only be more convincing in person. One important thing to do here; have them sign a model release giving you permission to use the video online.
  • Special Events/Community Involvement: Put the spotlight on yourself! If you have a float in your local parade, video tape it! Do you host special events or classes within your business? Videotape them as well. Show people interacting with you in a fun and exciting way.
  • Create Blog Posts: Blogs don't need to limited to text only. Slip a video in from time to time and make things a bit more interesting.
  • Training Videos: Here is a video use that your customers will never see; unless it is through the increased level of customer service they receive from your employee's. Video can be very effective & entertaining way to demonstrate key points to employees.
  • Mini Commercials: Announce your weekly or monthly specials on video! Think of all the fun you could have doing this!

As you can see, there are some really unique and exiting opportunities available in online video.

There is some work involved; it can be a daunting task if you look at it as a whole. Breaking it down into small achievable pieces and planning your video out will make it much easier to accomplish.

As technology progresses the costs associated with them have a tendency to come down bringing them within reach of the small business owner. Take advantage of everything you can.

You may find that putting these videos together is not only an effective marketing tool; but a lot of fun to do as well!

Tip of the Month!

Take advantage of News Releases! Using your local newspaper for exposure through news releases can be a very effective marketing tool and is very cost effective requiring only an investment of time.

Your release does not need to be earth shattering headline material. Prepare releases whenever you hire a new employee, expand your business in some fashion, or have an employee complete development or training courses.

If the release is printed, great! If not, all you have lost is a few minutes time.
